NOCN and Schools

NOCN has a number of qualifications that are suitable for delivery in schools for learner’s post 14, are on Section 96 (England) and have points allocated to them that contribute to school league tables.

Creative Skills Qualifications

These have been used successfully in schools to enhance learning programmes and to accredit much of the PSHE learning.

Recent developments through the Qualifications and Credit Framework Test and Trials has seen the development of new qualifications that allow previously disengaged learners to develop a personalised learning programme and achieve in bite-sized chunks. This approach has been successfully used in pilot schools and has resulted in the whole of a learners programme to build towards a worthwhile qualification.

Example 1 Work Related Learning at Key Stage 4 has been accredited using NOCN units and added to by core units studied at school, resulting in a larger and more worthwhile qualification that could be built upon in further study.

Example 2 Pupil Referral Units are asking learning providers for each young person in their care to use NOCN units within a national qualification, which are then collated into a NOCN Certificate or Diploma. Previously, the providers were all using different small qualifications or none at all, and the learners were frustrated by their lack of achievement.

Example 3 Special schools are using the units to motivate learners by certificating at each stage and then nesting the previous qualification in the next size up.
