Essential Skills

Both the NOCN Entry Level Certificate in Essential Skills - Adult Literacy and the NOCN Entry Level Certificate in Essential Skills - Adult Numeracy support the Essential Skills for Living Strategy in Northern Ireland, which led to the introduction of new standards, curricula and qualifications for Essential Skills programmes to improve the quality and consistency of literacy and numeracy provision for adults in Northern Ireland.

Essential Skills qualifications are designed to prepare people for work or help those already in work. The courses are practical and allow people to apply their skills in real life work situations, giving them the learning tools to; apply their knowledge and understanding to everyday life; engage easily with others; solve problems; and develop personally.
