Social Care and Young Peoples Settings

The NOCN Level 1 Award in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings (QCF) and the NOCN Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings (QCF) have been developed in partnership with Skills for Care and Development in consultation with employers within the health and social care sectors. The qualifications aim to support government strategies to develop knowledge, understanding and skills to prepare individuals for working in the health and social care sector.

The qualifications will stand in place of the previous Level 1 qualifications in England aimed at learners gaining knowledge relevant to working in the health and social care sector.  The new Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) qualifications will be aimed at learners interested in a career in health and social care, which may include young people in school or college, people who are unemployed and looking for a career in health and/or social care, or people undergoing pre-employment training.  The units and qualifications will allow learners to gain relevant basic knowledge and understanding of working in the health and social care sector and will allow for progression to future Level 2 qualifications.

In England, these Level 1 qualifications will form progression pathways through Foundation Learning to support learners in their journey to gaining a required full Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care and to working in the sector.  They can also be used to introduce prospective workers as part of the Sector Routeway training provided by Job Centre Plus in England.
