Seb Schmoller spent 20 years teaching and developing courses for workplace trade union representatives for the TUC. The main focus of his work switched to online learning in the mid 1990s and he led The Sheffield College's ground-breaking work in this area until 2002 including responsibility for the award-winning Learning to Teach On-Line (LeTTOL) and GCSE English Online courses. In 2003 Seb began working for the Association for Learning Technology (ALT) in a half time role that he combined with work as an independent consulting. He stood down as ALT's Chief Executive in 2012. Seb has been Chair of the Governing Body of The Sheffield College since January 2018.
