On Friday 10 June, AELP and NOCN Group hosted an online round table session to discuss the current state of apprenticeships. This follows the recently published apprenticeship achievement data and the Chancellor's comments regarding the Apprenticeship Levy. The discussion focussed on how - after 11 years since the Wolf Report and ten years since The Richard's Review - the English Apprenticeship system still has ground to make up compared to our G7 and European contemporaries.

The panel featured sector experts, key influencers, and subject matter experts who presented to delegates from the FE sector. The panel explored the circumstances that have led to a system that has experienced a significant increase in its fiscal model but has an achievement output that is less than two-thirds successful on average. Finally, the panel discussed business challenges on the correct application of the Apprenticeship Levy and the effects of the technical skills shortage, the great resignation and the cost-of-living crisis.

Thomas Burton, Group Director of Apprenticeships chaired the meeting and has shared his thoughts in a short report regarding the round table discussion.
