NOCN Group joins international partnership to support green construction skills in Morocco

NOCN Group has taken part in an international collaboration to help strengthen green construction education, with National Account Manager Melanie Jackson representing the organisation during a visit to Morocco.
The visit to Fez formed part of the British Council's Going Global initiative and brought together representatives from the Devon and Cornwall Training Provider Network, Learning Curve Group, the University of Exeter and NOCN Group to work alongside the Institut de Formation BTP au Maroc (IFMBTP), a specialist construction training institute.
The partnership is focused on sharing expertise to support the continued development of construction education, with each organisation contributing in different areas. NOCN Group is leading on greening the curriculum, sharing how green knowledge, skills and behaviours can be embedded throughout construction training and work-based learning.
During the visit, the delegation spent time with the IFMBTP team to better understand its existing curriculum, explore learner progression routes and discuss how curriculum development can continue to reflect the changing needs of employers and the construction sector.
The programme also highlighted the wider strengths of the partnership, including expertise in digital technologies for education and training, employer and stakeholder engagement, women into construction and sustainable construction practices.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured a construction project in the historic Medina of Fez, where a hotel is being renovated. The team were delighted to meet two former IFMBTP learners now working on the site, providing a tangible example of the institute's impact on the local construction workforce.
The visit concluded with a meeting attended by the British Ambassador to Morocco, Alex Pinfield, who joined discussions with the delegation and IFMBTP to reflect on what had been learned during the visit and the opportunities for future collaboration.
The partnership will now continue through a programme of online meetings and webinars, before representatives from IFMBTP visit Exeter in September.
The September visit is expected to include discussions around a Memorandum of Understanding with NOCN Group and the potential delivery of internationally recognised regulated qualifications alongside IFMBTP's existing national approvals. The aim is to give learners access to qualifications with wider international recognition, supporting future career opportunities both within Morocco and overseas.
The collaboration reflects NOCN Group's ongoing commitment to working with international partners to share expertise, strengthen vocational education and support the development of skills that meet the needs of employers around the world.
