New ‘future fit’ online course replaces test for NOCN CPCS Card renewals
Posted 21 August 2024
NOCN Group, one of the UK’s largest providers of ‘skills solutions’ to the construction sector, has replaced the Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) Renewal Test with a new Online CPD Course from 22 August 2024.
The Online Course will cost the same as the original Renewal Test, with no cost increases being passed on to cardholders.
The new easy-to-access, industry-led online course from NOCN Group offers cardholders and their employers a more effective and efficient means of demonstrating the competence and skills needed to renew CPCS Cards. A Renewal Test CPD tool will also be available to support the process, making it simple for all operatives to recognise which CPD elements are required for renewal.
Key benefits include:
• No category specific test.
• More relevant learning to support card holder skill/career development.
• Easy to access eLearning on any device connected to the internet (including smart phones).
• Can be completed at a time and location to suit the card holder or employer.
The e-learning consists of five modules which cover all current CPCS Categories, reducing the number of modules required for each cardholder to complete prior to renewing their CPCS card. ‘Future fit’ topics covered include people plant interface, sustainable plant operation, eco operation, legislation changes and new technologies within plant equipment.
As an international charity with the aim of advancing construction skills globally for improved productivity, social mobility and inclusivity, NOCN Group has been working on a number of improvements to the CPCS scheme since it took it over in 2019. These include 'smart' cards, a digital version of the operator logbook, an online Health, Safety & Environment Test, a new Skilled Operative Card for plant operators outside the construction sector, and now the new CPCS Online Renewal CPD. These up-to-date, fit-for-purpose solutions have been developed in partnership with industry to align with CSCS’ digitisation plans, which include a continuing professional development (CPD) element in all construction card schemes by 2030.
Carl Hassell, Director of CPCS from NOCN Group, says:
“The NOCN CPCS scheme is constantly being reviewed and updated to make it as fit for purpose and future-proof as possible. The new innovations we're introducing are designed to make the process of obtaining and renewing CPCS Cards as streamlined as possible while maintaining the industry’s high standards in safety and skills. It’s a win win for operatives and employers.”
