These are Ofqual-regulated and create a clear path into the renewables industry. This helps build a steady flow of skilled workers for future needs.

The Level 2 Award and Level 2 Certificate in ‘Fundamental Principles of Renewable Technologies and Sustainable Energy’ help learners gain practical knowledge, theoretical understanding and essential employability skills. These skills are crucial for supporting the UK's shift to a low-carbon economy. This involves understanding key issues like how fossil fuels form, the risks of depending on them, the causes of global warming, sources of renewable energy, and details about net zero goals.

NOCN Group and Quantum Training developed these qualifications to address the rising demand for experts in renewable energy systems. The Heat Pump Association (HPA) estimates that to hit the government’s goal of 600,000 heat pump installations each year by 2028, about 41,000 full-time jobs will be needed in the heat pump workforce. This number is expected to rise to 122,000 by 2035 to achieve 1.6 million installations per year. A significant portion of these roles will be heat pump installers, comprising nearly half of the workforce by 2035.

About the Level 2 Qualifications

Both the Level 2 Award and Certificate provide learners with balanced hands-on training and theoretical knowledge. Learners will develop key technical competencies alongside crucial employability skills to enhance their career prospects.

Course content includes units on: fossil fuels, global warming, Net Zero, and climate action, as well as optional units on electric vehicle charging, solar energy and air source heat pumps.

These qualifications have no prerequisites, making them accessible to a wide range of learners, from school leavers and career changers to businesses looking to upskill employees.

Hands-On training with state-of-the-art facilities

They designed them to work well with modern training facilities, like custom-built bays and demo units. Quantum’s Net Zero and Green Construction training centres offer hands-on experience.
