NOCN crowns Apprenticeship Champion at NMSY Apprenticeship Awards 2017

NOCN attended the NMSY (North Midlands and South Yorkshire) Apprenticeship Awards 2017 (Tuesday 16th May) and were proud to sponsor the Apprenticeship Champion Award which recognises apprentices that have made exceptional achievements since completing their course.

The winner of the Apprenticeship Champion Award was presented by NOCN’s Deputy MD, Jane Jones to the very worthy winner, Rebecca Edgecumbe, Marketing Executive at Interserve-Learning and Employment, based in Sheffield.

Rebecca comments: “It was empowering to be surrounded by so many advocates of apprenticeships at the NMSY Apprenticeship Awards, let alone to leave as a winner! The evening was a great example of how supportive of apprentices employers can be and it was encouraging to hear such positivity from the business leaders within the room. I’ve always felt that my managers have pushed me to grow in confidence and in my ability as a marketing professional. My apprenticeship has presented me with endless opportunities and I really do recommend them wholeheartedly, which is why it is so rewarding to be recognised for my role in doing just that."

It was a double celebration when Rebecca was announced as the winner as she was once mentored by NOCN’s Marketing Manager James Harkness in a previous role, at the very beginning of her apprenticeship journey.

Kim Pattison, Director of Marketing and Communications at Interserve Learning & Employment also comments: “Seeing Rebecca secure this award against such tough competition was a very proud moment. There were some great examples of young apprenticeship ambassadors and role models among the finalists in this category, making it all the more rewarding for Rebecca to collect the trophy. She has just recruited a further apprentice for the marketing team at Interserve Learning & Employment and is thoroughly enjoying her first role in people management, providing the encouragement and support that she once received as an apprentice herself from none other than James at NOCN! Having witnessed Rebecca’s ambition so far, I’m aware of her long-term sights on my role; luckily, succession planning is one of the areas where ILE excels!”

Sponsoring the award and recognising the huge impact apprenticeships can have on individuals and organisations over the long term, was a natural fit for NOCN, as an approved End Point Assessment provider for new apprenticeship standards, supporting both training providers and employers.

Apprenticeship AwardsJames Harkness at NOCN comments: “Johnston Press did a fantastic job of hosting the NMSY Apprenticeship Awards, highlighting the hardworking individuals and organisations involved in apprenticeships. It was a proud moment to award Rebecca with the Apprenticeship Champion Award and I personally feel privileged to have worked with her in the early days of her marketing career. Rebecca is a fantastic example of the career opportunities that apprenticeships provide. She is a multi-award winning marketing professional, with an exciting career ahead, working within a dynamic organisation that has employment and people development at its heart. To say she is a ‘champion’ of apprenticeships is an understatement and she is now working hard to support and showcase the next generation of apprentices in her role at Interserve.”
