Posted 18 September 2024
International skills charity and UK Awarding & Assessment Organisation NOCN Group is partnering with the New Statesman on a fringe event at the Labour Party Conference 2024.
Entitled: ‘How can we reform the UK's skills system for a fairer, more productive and sustainable economy?’, the panel discussion, to be held on Monday 23 September at 16.30-17.20 in Room 11B at ACC Liverpool.
It will be Chaired by freelance journalist and Co-director of Agenda Becky Slack with Former Secretary of State for Education Lord Blunkett, West Midlands Combined Authority’s Head of Insight Fiona Aldridge, Learning & Work Institute’s Director of Policy & Research Naomi Clayton, and NOCN Group chief executive Graham Hasting-Evans.
The discussion will centre around ensuring that the UK has the skills to meet the demands of a low-carbon economy and a workforce equipped with accessible and practical digital skills to get to grips with AI and other technological advances. It will analyse Labour’s manifesto plans to reform the current skills system, including the apprenticeship levy and the creation of Skills England, and ask whether they go far enough to meet the ambition of securing the highest sustained growth in the G7.
The panellists will share their insights on what policy changes hold the key to creating a modern world-class skills system that is relevant and agile.
