Recent research from Skills England highlights just how quickly this shift is taking place. More than 44% of organisations surveyed reported using AI tools daily, yet many are still at the early stages of adoption. Employees are often learning through trial and error, peer support or online videos, leading to inconsistent practice and varying levels of confidence.
The same research also identified barriers slowing AI adoption: limited time, competing priorities, cost pressures and uncertainty around available training. This makes the case for embedding AI awareness and workplace readiness into learning programmes before learners enter employment — rather than leaving it to chance.
This presents both a challenge and an opportunity for education providers.
