Craft Carpenters and Joiners are highly skilled professionals who work with wood-based materials to create, install, and refurbish complex building components. Operating in both new build and refurbishment construction sectors, they support projects ranging from modern methods of construction to heritage and sustainability initiatives.

This occupation splits into two specialisms:

  • Advanced Site Carpenters work on construction sites, preparing and installing bespoke components and complex roof structures.
  • Advanced Architectural Joiners operate in workshops, producing intricate components using woodworking machinery, often creating bespoke or refurbished pieces.

The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) has released an updated version of the assessment plan. This version replaces Craft Carpentry and Joinery V1.2.
