An Introduction to Human Form Recognition Systems

This course is designed to help machine operators and ground personnel develop a shared understanding of how HFR systems support safer work practices in operational environments.

Course Content

  • Explain the purpose, principles and limitations of Human Form Recognition (HFR) systems.
  • Describe how HFR technology supports safer interaction between people and plant without replacing safe systems of work.
  • Identify the main HFR system components and interpret common visual and audible alerts.
  • Describe the pre-use checks required to confirm an HFR system is operating correctly before work begins.
  • Explain the actions required by operators and ground personnel when an HFR intrusion is detected.
  • Describe the purpose of the Digital Thumbs Up system and the correct procedure for safely approaching plant.
  • Recognise the importance of communication, coordination and following site-specific procedures when working around HFR-equipped plant.
