Health and Safety Awareness in Construction

The course aims to provide individuals with a knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety when working in Construction.

Developing a fundamental understanding for both employer and employees responsibilities when maintaining safety and welfare, in line with legislation.

Course Structure

  • Course Length: 1 day
  • Minimum Age: 16
  • Assessment: Multiple-choice assessment (paperbased)

Who is this course designed for?

This course will benefit to both newly qualified and experienced Construction workers.

Train The Trainer

A trainer is required to deliver this course. A trainer includes anyone within your Centre who is facilitating the training to learners in any environment e.g. tutor, trainer, teacher, coach, facilitator. That individual can also perform the role of Assessor for this course.

All trainers and assessors must:

  • Hold verifiable knowledge of the occupational standards at or above the level being taught.

  • Hold or be working towards a recognised teaching/training or assessor qualification (dependent on their role), examples of what NOCN will accept are detailed within the Quality Assurance Manual.

  • Keep up to date with industry best practice for the duration of their role.

  • Maintain a record of Continuous Personal Development (CPD).

  • Hold an up-to-date CV.


It is recommended, but not mandatory, that trainers have completed at least one of the following training schemes:

  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
  • Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS).


Or hold, or be working towards one of the following qualifications:

 

  • NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety
  • Level 5 NVQ/SVQ in Occupational Health and Safety Practice
  • Health and Safety degree
  • NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Part 2 (units A, B C and D)
  • Level 6 Diploma on Occupational Health and Safety Management
  • Trainers must also be able to evidence an in-depth understanding of health and safety in a construction environment within a professional capacity and have evidence of CPD.
