The Level 2 Certificate in Plant Operations -Groundworks qualification has been developed for achievement in a training environment which means you do not need to be employed to undertake this qualification.

This qualification enables you, the learner, to demonstrate and recognise your skills, knowledge and understanding so you can progress onto further training or progress into a job role in the workplace.

This qualification enables you, the learner, to demonstrate and recognise your skills, knowledge and understanding so you can work as a Plant Operator within the construction industry.

You will be assessed against a set of performance and knowledge statements which have been derived from National Occupational Standards for your occupational area. You will be trained and assessed by an occupationally competent and qualified trainer whose job is to help you complete your qualification.

This qualification supports the learner to attain enabling, fundamental and transferable practical skills with associated underpinning knowledge.

This qualification can be taken as part of an apprenticeship framework, if desired. This qualification sits within the Construction Apprenticeship Framework in England and Wales.

This can be taken alongside the following qualifications in contribution towards achievement of a Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Construction Civil Engineering -Plant Operations:

-Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plant Operations
-Level 1 Award in Employee Rights and Responsibilities

This qualification comprises the 1 mandatory unit;

-Site safety and roles and responsibilities for plant operators

This qualification comprises units (24 credits required) from the following optional groups;

Option Group One (Forward Tipping Dumper):
-Know how to operate a forward tipping dumper
-Operate a forward tipping dumper
-Prepare and use a forward tipping dumper to carry out tipping duties and associated operations (Practical Synoptic Assignment)

Option Group Two (Excavator 180 -Below 5 Tonnes)
-Know how to operate an excavator 180 – below 5 tonnes
-Operate an excavator 180 – below 5 tonnes
-Prepare and use an excavator 180 – below 5 tonnes, to carry out excavation and loading duties and associated operations (Practical Synoptic Assignment)

Option Group Three (Excavator 180 -Above 5 Tonnes)
-Operate a concrete pump – truck mounted boom
-Know how to operate an excavator 180 – above 5 tonnes
-Prepare and use an excavator 180 – above 5 tonnes, to carry out excavation duties and associated operations (Practical Synoptic Assignment)

Option Group Four (Ride-on Roller)
-Know how to operate a ride-on roller
-Operate a ride-on roller
-Prepare and use a ride-on roller to carry out compacting tasks and associated operations (Practical Synoptic Assignment)

Option Group Five(Excavator 360 -Below 10 Tonnes)
-Know how to operate an excavator 360° – below 10 tonnes
-Operate an excavator 360° – below 10 tonnes
-Prepare and use an excavator 360° – below 10 tonnes, to carry out excavating, loading, reinstatement duties and associated operations (Practical Synoptic Assignment)

Option Group Six (Excavator 360 -Above 10 Tonnes)
-Know how to operate an excavator 360° above 10 tonnes
-Operate an excavator 360° above 10 tonnes
-Prepare and use an excavator 360° above 10 tonnes to carry out excavating and loading duties and associated operations (Practical Synoptic Assignment).
