The NOCN Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Tunnelling Operations -Tunnel Boring Machine Operator (Construction) qualification is vocationally based and as such, offers the opportunity for learners to demonstrate an achievement of practical skills, understanding and knowledge in the workplace. Learners will demonstrate knowledge of generic skills including conforming to health, safety and welfare in the workplace and productive working practices as well as occupational skills such as excavating and profiling tunnels and preparing and operating earth pressure balance and slurry tunnel boring machines to construct and form tunnels. This qualification has been developed to allow learners to evidence their occupational competence within the workplace. It can be taken as a standalone qualification to demonstrate occupational competence and may provide evidence for operatives to be able to apply for their Blue – Skilled Worker Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card, if available. The learner will be assessed against a set of performance and knowledge statements which have been derived from National Occupational Standards for your occupational area (Recommended Qualification Structure for Tunnelling Operations (Construction) Level 3). The learner will be assessed by an occupationally competent and qualified assessor whose job is to work with the learner and help the learner complete the qualification. This qualification supports the learner to attain enabling, fundamental and transferable practical skills with associated underpinning knowledge. The learner will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these mandatory units: -Excavating and profiling tunnels in the workplace -Preparing and operating earth pressure balance and slurry tunnel boring machines to construct and form tunnels in the workplace -Developing and Maintaining Good Occupational Working Relationships in the Workplace -Confirming Work Activities and Resources for an Occupational Work Area in the Workplace -Confirming the Occupational Method of Work in the Workplace -Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace -Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace.
