NOCN is one of ten Ofqual approved Awarding Organisations that have been through a technical evaluation process to ensure that our qualifications are of a high quality and are aligned to the correct level of demand and coverage of the subject content set out by the Department for Education. NOCN have developed brand new English and Maths Awards as stepping stones to the reform Functional Skills Qualifications.
These qualifications are vocationally based and offer the opportunity for learners to demonstrate an achievement of practical skills, understanding and knowledge in English and maths. They enable learners to build confidence and provide a foundation for further study towards Functional Skills or GCSEs. The NOCN Awards are designed to provide learners with a flexible route to developing the skills in English which will enable them to build confidence and provide a foundation for further study towards a GCSE in English, a Functional Skill in English, a move into employment or as a stepping stone to higher level study.
We offer a full suite of English and maths Skills qualifications from Entry level to Level 2. NOCN English and maths awards have been mapped to the subject content of the reformed Functional Skills Qualifications. The awards have been developed to reflect the increase in demand of the subject content. The awards are also underpinned by the Adult Literacy Core Curriculum (DfES 2001-2009) and the National Standards for Adult Literacy (QCA 2005).
The qualifications are in units in order to help learners become confident and build their ability to enable progression onto functional skills qualifications.
These qualifications allow a flexible approach to the delivery, with the ability to select from a range units to make up a bespoke qualification tailored to the individual. The English and maths qualification can be delivered as a stand-alone unit or as part of a programme of study. The delivery of the programme is on demand there are no assessment windows.
These qualifications are available for leaners aged 14 years and over, who intend to progress onto reformed Functional Skills, further study, work or life.
