Aim
The aim of this unit is to provide the learner with the knowledge to:
• identify, select and install double-lap artificial slates to manufacturers’ instructions to BS 8000-6: Workmanship on building sites (Code of Practice for slating and tiling of roofs and claddings) and BS 5534-1 Code of Practice for slating and tiling (including shingles)
• describe construction of components with a range of ancillary fixings to receive slate products from background preparation.
The knowledge acquired by the learner will enable them to understand:
• how artificial slate gauge, side lap and head lap in relation to the roof pitch can determine the methods and installation processes used to complete an artificial slate roof area.
