Aim
The aim of this unit is to provide the learner with the knowledge to:
• identify, select and install random natural slates to manufacturers’ instructions to BS 8000-6: Workmanship on building sites (Code of Practice for slating and tiling of roofs and claddings) and BS 5534-1 Code of Practice for slating and tiling (including shingles)
• demonstrate knowledge and construction of components with a range of ancillary fixings to receive slate products from background preparation.
The knowledge acquired by the learner will enable them to:
• understand how slate gauges, side laps and head laps in relation to the roof pitch can determine the methods and installation processes used to complete a diminishing margin natural slate roof.
