The aim of this unit is to provide the learner with the skills to: • identify, select and install random natural slates to manufacturers’ instructions to BS 8000-6: Workmanship on building sites (Code of Practice for slating and tiling of roofs and claddings) and BS 5534-1 Code of Practice for slating and tiling (including shingles) • demonstrate knowledge and construction of components with a range of ancillary fixings to receive slate products from background preparation. The skills developed by the learner include: • setting out the natural slate products to diminishing margins • cutting, fixing and finishing to main roof areas and junctions
