What are SWAPs?

Sector-based Work Academy Programmes (SWAPs) are short-term, government-funded training programmes designed to support jobseekers aged 16 and over in transitioning into employment. Delivered in collaboration with employers, Jobcentre Plus, and training providers, these programmes typically include:

  • Pre-employment training tailored to specific industries
  • Short-term work placements
  • Guaranteed job interviews or application support

Benefits to employers include:

  • The ability to assess candidate suitability before hiring
  • Access to a pool of pre-trained, motivated candidates
  • Reduced recruitment costs and time

These programmes are fully government-funded, with additional support available for participants.

SWAP Bundles by Sector

Construction and Engineering

Bricklaying, Carpentry & Joinery, Painting & Decorating, Plastering, Tiling, Groundworks, Formwork, Steel Fixing, Dry Lining, MIG/TIG/MMA Welding

Digital and Life Skills

Digital Skills, Health & Social Care, Employability Skills (CVs, interviews, personal branding)

Green Energy and Retrofit

Domestic Retrofit & Safety, Energy Assessment, Efficiency in Older/Traditional Buildings

Each SWAP includes:

  • Practical skills training for each trade or sector
  • Employability skills development
  • Sector-specific qualifications (e.g., Construction Health & Safety or Level 2 Engineering Welding Award)

Bootcamps: High-Impact, Employer-Aligned Training

NOCN Group Bootcamps are intensive, 6–10 week programmes designed to build practical skills quickly. With 60 to 150 guided learning hours, they focus on applied learning in high-demand sectors:

  • Construction and Engineering
  • Renewables and Green Technologies
  • Digital Skills
  • Health and Social Care
  • Service and Retail (including Hospitality and Retail-specific training)

Most Bootcamps include:

  • Core technical training aligned to the occupational area
  • Supporting qualifications (e.g., Health and Safety Awareness in Construction)
  • Customisable employability skills
  • Hands-on project work with direct input from employers

These Bootcamps are ideal for upskilling or career changes, offering clear pathways into employment or further training.
